Alfred Stieglitz

In this photo, I see a black and white picture of a lot of people being held. It looks almost as if they were on a boat. It looks like some people in the photograph are doing their laundry and they are headed somewhere far away. I think what Alfred was trying to do with this picture is capture the moment. The people on the boat are going from New York, to Bremen, after they tried to immigrate to america, but were forced to return home. Stieglitz captured this moment because he thought it had some historical significance. The first thing that catches my eye in the photo is the boarding bridge. It makes you think about all of those people and how they wanted to come to america for a better life, but they were forced to return home. The black and white gives the picture an old feeling and I like that about it

because it makes the picture seem more "historical". This photograph gives off a sad feeling because it seems some people are crying and look kind of depressed because they are getting sent back home. As I look at the photo more, I see the emotions in the people and they don't seem happy at all. This picture caught my eye because I saw all of the people and I wanted to know why there were so many people being held in such a small area.
